Introduce slowly at 0.5kg, building up to a maximum of 3.0-4.0kgs per cow per day. Do not ad-lib feed or feed alone. Adequately blend with PKE and forages to avoid gorging and potential ruminal acidosis or SARA (sub acute ruminal acidosis). Total feed blends should not excess 50% Barley and total feed amount should be individually fed ideally and access time limited. Works well with and balances PKE, higher fibre and lower starch feed inputs.
With Barley, always feed Rumensin (or other ionophore products) and Vistacell Yeast when feeding this high starch feed source. Always feed Barley with a fibre/chewable roughage source, plenty of water and mineral rumen pH buffers in the same mouthful (salt, sodium bicarbonate etc.).
